Thanks for visiting The Coleman Institute, LLC, the Advanced Center for Addiction Treatment (formerly The Commonwealth Addiction Treatment Center).

For nearly seven years The Coleman Institute has been helping people by detoxifying and stabilizing them from the effects of Heroin use and other opiates such as Methadone, Oxycontin, Percodan, Vicodin and other narcotic drugs. Due to the overwhelming response from patients and their families, we have a treatment center in Orange County, California servicing the West Coast.

Through our early experiences with detoxification and with the use of newly developed techniques, we have realized remarkable success with over 1000 patients - freeing them from the damaging effects of drug addiction. In most cases our patients have remained drug free for extended periods of time and have taken significant and permanent steps in putting their lives and the lives of their families back together by remaining drug free.

If you or someone close to you is trapped by a drug or alcohol dependency addiction, The Coleman Institute is waiting to help. For a quick and CONFIDENTIAL discussion, Contact Us and begin the screening process.

Improved Program

Recent developments by Peter R. Coleman, MD, the Center's Chief Medical Officer, and his staff have given The Coleman Institute a breakthrough program called the Accelerated Detoxification Technique (ADT). This advanced technique, developed in 2000, is much easier on the patient, is more effective, safer and much less expensive than other treatments available.

In the past we used the Ultra Rapid Detoxification (URD) technique that was developed in Europe in the 1980s. The URD method involved putting patients under general anesthesia in an acute hospital setting and rapidly injecting the drug Naltrexone to flush all remaining opiates from the brain receptors. While we had no major complications with URD, we found the procedure was very uncomfortable for our patients. When they awoke from the anesthesia they usually felt, as they described it, "absolutely awful." Moreover, URD was very expensive due to the hospital setting required for the anesthesia. As Dr. Coleman himself is a recovering addict, he understands this intense level of pain and has dedicated his work to developing a better way to help.

Easier, Safer, More Effective and Less Expensive

The Accelerated Detoxification Technique's unique advantages include:

  • Much Easier on the patient through the use of a number of medicines including Ultram and other sedatives
  • Safer in that no general anesthesia is needed
  • More Effective with the use of a long term Naltrexone implant - over 99% of Coleman Institute patients have completed the crucial detoxification phase of the technique
  • Less Expensive because the technique is performed on an outpatient basis

Better Than Buprenex

The new process is easier on the patient because the drug Ultram is used versus Buprenex in the new technique. Using Ultram, the ADT is completed in a 3-day period versus the 7-10 days required for Buprenex to effectively detox. On using Ultram Dr. Coleman said, "In my opinion Ultram is a better drug than Buprenex because it is easier on the patient as it relieves the withdrawal symptoms, especially in those first few days."

The combination of these advantages makes the Accelerated Detoxification Technique the preferred and affordable method of treating and detoxifying opiate addicted patients today. This method, with the added element of a reliable support person to assist during the process, is showing remarkable results in helping patients get their lives back on track.

Naltrexone Implants

Over 99% of all patients get completely detoxified through the Accelerated Detoxification Technique and started on Naltrexone. Once the detoxification phase is complete, we insert the Naltrexone implant completely blocking the impact of any opiates for at least six weeks. Getting through this critical period gives The Coleman Institute patients a significant head start in staying drug free permanently. We have been very impressed with the effectiveness of the Naltrexone implant and recommend it for all our patients.

While there are never any guarantees that a patient won't go back to using addictive opiates, this new method, if followed by a strong commitment to stay in the recovery program, offers the very best chance of a patient getting and staying clean. The entire treatment process, from screening to follow-up, is discreet and easy to start.
