Our Coleman Institute staff regularly meets to discuss the kinds of things medical offices must discuss. Occasionally at these meetings we look at our website and ask ourselves if it is communicating what we are truly about. It is interesting to note how many of the people who choose an opioid detox from Dilaudid®, Percocet® and other forms of oxycodone, Vicodin® and other forms of hydrocodone, fentanyl (prescribed or bought on the streets), heroin, methadone, or variations on buprenorphine—have been referred to us by their friends and family members. It’s not too surprising. Many folks who become our patients have been treated as criminals, not people with the disease of addiction…as if they had a choice about having this condition. From the moment a person becomes involved with the Coleman Institute, the camaraderie begins to develop. He or she experiences respect, warmth, humor, reassurance and—perhaps most importantly—real hope that once and for all- they can be released from the grip of opiate addiction. Our Accelerated Opioid Detox technique is based on science; our rapport is based on loving what we do. We love what we do because there is nothing quite so satisfying as being able to say with true conviction that we see people get better all the time. And because our staff knows this is a disease, we are free to love our patients and hate the illness. Admittedly, we are just a stepping stone in the process; the real work starts when our client leaves and re-enters their real world. Like the sculptor who ‘frees’ the carving trapped in stone, a person who embraces recovery must daily release what they no longer need, continually revealing the life they are meant to live. Our Clinical Case manager, Bridget Walsh works with each Richmond patient to put a plan in place.

ASK FOR HELP

So, thank you to everyone who has trusted us to send a beloved friend or family member. It is a great privilege to be a small part of their journey. Here is an excerpt from a testimonial we recently received. She says it better than I can. “I give the Coleman Institute a five in its professionalism, organization, caring, helpful, resourceful and unhurried staff. I don't know why all detox facilities don't use Dr. Coleman's method. Addiction runs in my family but as I have witnessed so does recovery. The Coleman Institute understands that people with addictions deserve respect and dignity. Something they don't often get. Mostly because it doesn't just affect the addict but all those that love them or work with them have a lesser quality of life because of the addiction. And it seems to us that it is a choice, and we just want them to make the choice for all of us to have a better life. So we give them less and less respect and dignity and what they really need is more. My granddaughter has been through other detox before and it is so degrading and painful. She said it was like they all felt that she deserved to suffer and maybe she would not go back to drugs. She left there feeling drained, humiliated and worthless. She left Coleman feeling proud of her accomplishment, encouraged and excited for what she felt she could do. At the Coleman Institute they strive to make us all feel deserving of dignity, respect and comfort. I think my granddaughter has a way to go but the Coleman Institute helped me to help her to take advantage of an "it's time to do this attitude" with speed and as pleasant an experience as possible. She says she is ready. The naltrexone implant will really help.” At The Coleman Institute, we specialize in helping people get clean and stay clean from alcohol and drugs. We offer a non-judgmental, safe, encouraging atmosphere to start your healing process from addiction. If you or someone you love is in need of detox from opiates, alcohol, benzos, methadone, or Suboxone, please do not hesitate to call us and learn more. Joan R. Shepherd FNP
